Largely a null/negative result for content-rewriting GEO: the Statistics method lowered rankings in 19 of 24 settings, and per-adopter gains shrink toward zero as more competitors adopt the same method. Traditional retrieval rank mattered far more. White-hat methods only, English only. The 2.8-place gain is the Retail result and the largest across domains (others 0.70 to 1.89).

Geneva-based Repliq ran 1,248 hotel queries for four Swiss destinations across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode: the assistants named 3,539 hotels but only 26 appeared in all four, and official hotel websites made up 34.7% of cited sources.

Benchmark, not an intervention; destinations and hotels are not named. The low overlap (26 of 3,539) supports the point that there is no single 'AI visibility'. Google AI Mode asked follow-up questions in almost every second answer, ChatGPT in about 30%, Perplexity never. Repliq's own business is not described in the article, so a conflict of interest cannot be assessed.

24Time from publishing the page to AI tools repeating the claim (reported as within)

One false self-ranking post on a low-traffic personal site, written in about 20 minutes, had Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT repeating within 24 hours that the reporter was the top hot-dog-eating tech journalist; Claude was not fooled.

Single anecdotal test on an uncontested, made-up topic; the original BBC article could not be opened, so details come from Scientific American and Business Insider. A Business Insider reporter's copycat page two days later failed to displace him, as chatbots by then treated the story as a joke; Gemini still invented unrelated details.

The page's stated range of '100% to 260%+' growth does not cover the fintech client (1% to 40%). Timeline wording varies ('under 2 months', 'as little as two months'). Tactics beyond tracking are not detailed. Published month inferred from the URL slug.

Aggregate data from uptain's cart-abandonment plugin, which it says runs in over 3,000 shops (mostly small and mid-sized, presumably German-speaking; the country mix is not stated). The report does not give the period for the conversion, basket and abandonment figures or the baseline for traffic growth. uptain sells abandonment-recovery tools, not GEO services. The report argues ChatGPT traffic mostly displaces existing channels rather than adding new visitors.

Vendor-published; the subject is an agency that sells AI search services. No absolute traffic numbers, so the base may be small. Citations and brand coverage are said to be up without figures. Tactics: robots.txt and sitemap cleanup, Clutch profile and directory consistency, a client review push, location pages. Date is the 'last updated' date.

    • +63% Citations, untouched reference page already titled 2026 (Group B window) · Jul 2026

A useful null result. One URL ('Best AI Search Monitoring Tools') accounted for 775 of Group B's 833-citation gain and 86% of the gain across all 11 pages; per page, six rose, three fell and two stayed at zero. Reference pages were not matched to test pages and some moved 60%+ on their own in two weeks, so natural variance exceeds the plausible effect. Engines: all tracked by OtterlyAI, US market. Crawler data was about one-third missing.

How we built it
  • Sources: company posts and reports, founder posts, agency and tool-vendor case studies, press, and research papers.
  • A case gets in only if it reports a number tied to AI assistants or AI search: referral traffic, signups, revenue, citations, mentions, share of voice or position in answers.
  • Every source was opened and the numbers were copied from it on the verification date shown in each record. Nothing is filled in from memory.
  • Evidence: A = the brand’s own numbers or a controlled study; B = a named brand reported by a third party; C = anonymous, anecdotal or no clear baseline.
  • “Seller-reported” marks cases published by someone who sells GEO services or tools. We keep them, flagged.
  • Numbers are as reported and not audited. Correlation is not causation: a credited tactic is what the source says worked.
  • Spot checks: independent reviewers re-opened the sources of 40 randomly drawn records in two rounds. No number was invented. Three records misstated context (a period, an engine, a video count); those and smaller wording and date issues were fixed.
